Netbook Software Tip#2 – Screen Capture

Here’s my software tip #2 for your netbook. If you like me, you use your netbook mostly for web browsing. While browsing the Internet, I do a lot of web clipping. Evernote does come with the web clipping feature; however, I find it is too limited and a proper screen capture software is a better way to do that. Here are some of the recommended softwares:

SnagIt

1. Snag It (Commercial = $49.95)
This is probably the most common tool that everybody use on Windows environment. It allows you to do all the basic screen capture (active windows, screen, region) very well and more. It comes with the editor that allows you annotate the screen (highlight and add note to the image) as well as it capable to capture video!

Screen Capture Utility

2. Greenshot
If you don’t want to pay, here are an option for you. Greenshot is a lightweight screen capture utility that doesn’t need any installation (you can bring it with you in a Flash drive). Like SnagIt, it allows you to capture screen, active window and region and then open on its editor for annotation.

3. Screen Capturer
Yet another freeware for screen capture utility. It can save the captured images to different formats (BMP, JPG, GIF, PNG, or TIFF) as well as capturing wmv animations.

4. Jing
A project by the creator of Snag It. This software allows you to capture images, record video and then directly share it online to your friends (it uploads the images or videos to the online repository and provides you with the URL to share to your friends). It also allows you to share the images and videos to ScreenCast, Flickr, etc!
